Daily Spark: Are You Just Going Through The Motions?

I noticed recently in training that some of my sessions weren’t as “taxing” as they had been in the past. As I finished one of these sessions up, I paused and hit remind in my mind going back through the session which was about 45 minutes. I then looked back at some various sessions over the previous few weeks and realized that while a few sessions were “really good”, many were average, and more than a few were sub-par.
This pissed me off.
I then proceeded to not end this session and go back to do some additional work and make it “above average”. I had become complacent in some training and was going through the motions. I then resolved after the above session that I would refocus and recommit to not allowing BS sessions to happen, and work to stay “above the line.”
I used training as an example but going through the motions can happen in any facet of your life or work. It can be subtle and sneak up on you like it did with me above in training. So you have to stay vigilant, maybe get checked by someone else, or have the self-discipline to always be challenging yourself and taking it to another level. I had become lazy in some regards, maybe distracted, and allowed mediocrity to carry me through the motions.
Don’t be a victim of just going through the motions. Stay on point and always be pushing yourself. Reflect, learn, and adapt. It is the only way to improve. And as you know, you are either improving or declining.
